Francisco Meizoso joined the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at Columbia University in the Fall of 2011. Francisco came to Columbia from Fairfield University in nearby Connecticut where he taught courses in Hispanic Linguistics and Spanish and also directed the Language Resource Center. Previously he had worked as a teaching associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he completed his PhD.

His research interests focus on language development and bilingualism, as well as on the study of sign language, hand gestures, and other forms of non verbal communication and their relation to speech and cognition.

Recently, he has also worked on the pedagogical applications of web based technologies in the context of the foreign language classroom.
