Creación y difusión del “Baladro del Sabio Merlín”

Abstract

The "Baladro del Sabio Merlín", published in Burgos in 1498, is one of the key pieces of Arthurian narratives in the Iberian Peninsula. It is one of the descendants of the so-called Arthurian Post-Vulgate, which seems to be an Iberian cycle, written in both Castilian and Portuguese.

Cátedra, Pedro M., and Jesús Rodríguez-Velasco. Creación y difusión de “El Baladro del Sabio Merlín”: Burgos, 1498. Salamanca: Seminario de Estudios Medievales y Renacentistas, 2000. Print.

In the present book, the authors study the process of creation of the Baladro del Sabio Merlín as it was published in Burgos in 1498. After establishing the textual and political traditions, in which they discuss current bibliography about the Merlín and other Arthurian materials in Iberian literatures, they suggest a new reading of the transitions between manuscripts and printed books, highlighting the literary and political circles in which this sort of works were read and commented on.
