Los hilos de la vanguardia: el colectivismo como teoría del arte

Abstract

This essay examines the phenomenon of artistic collectivism in Mexico in the 1970s and early 1980s with respect to the definition and relevance of the neo-avant-garde in Latin America. It argues that in lieu of transcending art through cooperative cultural labor, the groups in question proposed the collectivization of their practice as a new, more reflexive locus for art after modernism.
