Dolores Barbazán Capeáns
Dolores Barbazán-Capeáns, Ph.D. is a Lecturer in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at Columbia University, where she teaches courses in Spanish language. She received her Ph.D. in Didactics of Language and Literature from the University of Barcelona in 2014. She also holds an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona, Spain; a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Complutense University of Madrid; a Postgraduate Course in E-Learning Research from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) in 2021; and a BA in English Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Her research interests include discourse analysis, the use of cinema for teaching Spanish as a second language, and the application of technology in language learning and teaching. She is also engaged in digital humanities and the creation of pedagogical materials for language learning.
Teaching
Dolores Barbazán-Capeáns teaches Intermediate Spanish I and has previously worked on Didactics of Spanish Language and Culture with Dr. Llopis-García, focusing on digital tools to enhance online collaboration and dialogue. She has also taught Elementary Spanish I and Intermediate Spanish II and organized a Research and Professional Development Workshop.
She is passionate about teaching and learning languages and exploring new cultures. For her, learning a new language opens doors to new ways of thinking and living and facilitates communication across cultures. Her goal is to enrich her students' learning experiences and share her love for languages and cultures with them.
