Dolores Barbazán Capeáns

Dolores Barbazán-Capeáns joined the Latin American and Iberian Cultures Department as Aecid lecturer in 2016. She received her Ph.D. in Didactics of Language and Literature from the University of Barcelona in 2014. She holds an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, from Rovira i Virgili University, in Tarragona, Spain; a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Complutense University of Madrid, and a BA in English Philology from The University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She has taught at Birkbeck, University of London; Ovidius University of Constanta, in Romania; and Barcelona University in Spain. She has also collaborated with Instituto Cervantes in Romania, and the Open University of Catalonia.

Dr. Barbazán-Capeáns´ research interests include discourse analysis and the use of cinema for teaching Spanish as a second language. She is also interested in the use of technology for language learning and teaching, the digital humanities, and the creation of pedagogical materials for learning languages.

TEACHING

She will be teaching Intermediate Spanish II during the Fall of 2021. She has taught Didactics of Spanish Language and Culture with Dr. Llopis-García during the Fall of 2016, where she focused on the use of digital tools for reflecting on teaching practices that favor online collaboration and dialogue. She also taught Elementary Spanish I, Intermediate Spanish I, and she has organized the Research and Professional Development Workshop II.


She enjoys teaching and learning languages and exploring new cultures. Learning a new language enables one to know new ways of thinking and living, and to communicate with people from other cultures. She hopes that she can facilitate the learning process for her students and share her passions with them.
