The Hispanic Institute
Founded in 1920 as the Instituto de las Españas, the Hispanic Institute for Latin American & Iberian Cultures at Columbia University is a scholarly and cultural center whose aims are to disseminate research on Iberian and Latin American cultures in all their manifestations and to promote new contributions to Latin American and Iberian cultural production in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. The Hispanic Institute is the official sponsor of all academic and social events undertaken by the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at Columbia's Casa Hispánica. Since its inception, the Hispanic Institute has published numerous scholarly monographs as well as literary works and, since 1934, has edited uninterruptedly a distinguished scholarly journal, the Revista Hispánica Moderna.
