SPAN UN3300: Advanced Language Through Content

This course integrates the development of linguistic proficiency with the study and analysis of texts and cultural products from the Spanish-speaking world. Throughout the semester, students will continue to develop their linguistic and discursive skills while becoming familiar with conceptual and practical tools drawn from cultural studies. The course provides the necessary scaffolding for students to engage with intellectually sophisticated texts and topics in Spanish. Particular attention will be given to discourse analysis, close reading, academic writing, argumentation, and oral communication, integrating the study of content with attention to the linguistic and discursive forms through which it is constructed and communicated.

Each section is organized around a broad theme that serves as the guiding framework for classwork (please consult the Directory of Classes for the topic of each section). This course is required for the minor, major and major with specialization in Hispanic Studies.
