LAIC Graduate Student Awards
Professor Sara M. Parkinson Saz and Professor Carlos Saz established the Saz-Parkinson Fund in 2015 in memory of their son, Carlos Roberto Saz-Parkinson, who earned a Ph.D. from our department in 2007. As imagined by the funders: "It is our preference that consideration be given to Ph.D. students who are 1) pursuing a dissertation on Iberian or Iberian related topics in Spanish/Castilian literature and who are in need of additional funding to travel to Iberian archives and libraries to do research; 2) students pursuing a dissertation on Iberian literature, who need to carry out archival research at another institution in the United States or overseas; or 3) students who have been selected to present a paper on Iberian literature at a conference in Spain or elsewhere. The Chair of the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures, in consultation with faculty in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures, shall select the recipient students from the departmental call for projects based on these preferences."
The award in recent years has been in the amount of $2500. The committee occasionally chooses to award two fellowships of $1250 instead of a single fellowship for $2500.
- Annual prize for excellence in graduate studies in the field of Latin American and Iberian Cultures that is awarded in two categories: Ángel del Río Prize for Best Essay and Ángel del Río Prize for Best Dissertation Chapter.
