Emily Oliveira

Emily has been a Ph.D. student at the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures since Fall 2023. Her interests in literature and philosophy have taken the form of studying the limits of sincerity in autobiographical artifacts (memoirs, films, paintings) of 19th & 20th century Spain and Portugal. How are autobiographical artifacts, in addition to being profound microcosms of the individual, also pieces of evidence of the total reality of capitalist modernity—of sweeping, networked processes?

She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Harvard University and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from Dartmouth College. Prior to joining LAIC, she worked at Verve Talent & Literary Agency in Los Angeles.
