Profile

My research interests broadly include contemporary literary and critical theory, specifically the study of poetics.

In addition to this, I am currently looking into the theory of the subject in Latin America and how processes of subjection/ subjectivization create contemporary melancholic subjects, whose psychical or inward reception and response to these processes is indexed in poetic texts. I find that the influence of some of Latin America’s central poetic voices creates, as much as it reflects, how Latin American subjects (within and without diaspora) relate to the phenomenon of melancholy in both its broader social and inward situations.

My current and more general project, looking hopefully forward toward doctoral studies, is to develop a genealogical study of poetic melancholy in contemporary Latin America, seeking to understand how, through the works of poets, this affective state is engendered uniquely or differentially as a mode of being among Latin American subjects.
