Leyre Alejaldre Biel
With over two decades of international teaching experience, Dr. Alejaldre Biel’s pedagogical and research approach is deeply informed by her global engagements across institutions in the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, The Gambia, Barbados, and Thailand.
She earned her Ph.D. in Modern Languages, Translation, and Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from the University of Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain, graduating Sobresaliente Cum Laude and receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Her dissertation focused on curriculum design for Spanish L2 programs in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically examining the case of The Gambia.
Dr. Alejaldre-Biel’s teaching and research center on Spanish language pedagogy, digital literacy, and inclusive, technology-enhanced learning. Her research interests encompass applied linguistics, ecolinguistics, digital pedagogy, and language policy. She has contributed extensively to scholarly discourse on the integration of technology in language education, with publications addressing digital teaching competence, metacognitive strategies in online reading, and the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in language acquisition. She also directs the podcast Afrolatinas en Estados Unidos, a podcast she launched in April 2023 to give visibility to Afro-Latinas in the United States through original scripts written by students in her advanced course Afrolatinas in United States: Gender, Race, and Sociopolitical Forces in the Digital World.
