Lía Tamir

Lía is a PhD student in the Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures and at the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society (ICLS) at Columbia University. Her research explores the relationship between poetics, media, and material environments in modern Latin American and Early Modern Iberian literature and art. She works at the intersection of literature, philosophy, and media theory, with particular attention to maritime and riverine poetics. She has written on the poetry of Juan L. Ortiz (Entre Ríos, Argentina) and Cervantes’s Persiles. 

She holds an M.A. in Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a B.A. in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies with a major in Philosophy from Tel-Hai University. Before coming to Columbia, she worked as a research coordinator for the University of Pennsylvania’s Galápagos Education and Research Alliance.
