Pat Santalices Torres
Pat Santalices Torres is a PhD student in the department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures at Columbia University. They are also completing a Graduate Certificate from the Institute of Comparative Literature and Society in the Language and Literature Track. Their research interests focus on Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean cultural representations of survival. Currently, they are interested in looking at cultural artifacts from the 19th century and beyond, specifically those relating to literary mediums, such as slave narratives, autobiographical accounts, and autobiographical fiction. Moving forward, they would like to expand their objects of study by looking at other forms of cultural production such as visual and sound mediums.
Before coming to Columbia University, Pat completed two B.A. degrees at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras: Comparative Literature and English Literature. They were also a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow and a Scholar-in-Residence at UPR Caribe Digital.
