GALAIC Presents: A Conversation with Las Hijas de Felipe

Casa Hispánica, Room 201

With over sixty-five episodes published, Las hijas de Felipe is one of the most popular podcasts in the Spanish-speaking world and the collaborative project of Hispanists Ana Garriga and Carmen Urbita. In their own words, they have built a “therapeutic corner of deliberate a-historicism” that explores through rigour and wit how female monastic life in the Baroque can help us navigate very contemporary affects.

As their motto runs: “Whatever is happening to you now, already happened to a nun in the 16th and 17th centuries”. In their book Covent Wisdom: How Sixteenth-Century Nuns Could Save Your Twenty-First-Century Life (its publication date is November 4, 2025) LHDF expands this gesture, looking at these women’s lives through a refreshing and relatable lens, inviting us to escape grand narratives and find solace in the lesser-known ones.

LAIC's Graduate Student Association (GALAIC) is thrilled to welcome Las hijas de Felipe to Casa Hispánica, where PhD student C. Elvira García will ask them questions about collaborative academic practices and they will question together the contested figure of the ‘Literary It-Girl’. This is an event sponsored by GALAIC.
