Organized as part of the First-Year Colloquium in Latin American and Iberian Cultures, this panel emerges from the urgency of responding to the ongoing catastrophes that continue to unsettle and reshape our communities. What alternatives might we imagine to capitalism and its logic of insatiable growth, productivity, and domination? Approaching these questions through an open and interdisciplinary dialogue, we are honored to bring together Nadia Abu El-Haj (Columbia University), Nancy Fraser (The New School), Michel Nieva (New York University), and Raúl Ornelas (Universidad Autónoma de México).
First-year graduate students will also hold two preliminary reading sessions on Wednesdays, March 11 and March 25, at 4:30 pm at Casa Hispánica. One text by each panelist will be recommended and discussed as a way to prepare for and deepen engagement with the conversation. For more information about these sessions, reach out to Violeta Vaca: [email protected].
